Program Description: Quarter based internship positions are available at the NIH Big Data to Knowledge (BD2K) Center of Excellence for Biomedical Computing at UCLA. We offer either UCLA M199 research class credits (if eligible) or compensation based on experience. The BD2K Center of Excellence at UCLA (heartbd2k.org) is a unique federally funded program that seeks to advance the data science and applicability of Big Data to biomedical research. Hired interns will work directly under supervision of a designated project manager, Vincent Kyi, and closely with clinicians, bioinformaticians, and computer scientists in research laboratory directed by Dr. Peipei Ping (note: dry lab space has been allocated for interns), which hosts the HeartBD2K Center at UCLA. Our general investigation focus is to research and apply machine learning, text-mining, and statistical methods to discover new insights from various types of clinical data. Hired interns will also create applications not only to study cardiovascular diseases from fundamental mechanistic insights, but also to improve clinical diagnostics, therapeutic regimens, and patient’s outcomes.
